Julie Gilden and Asher Fine's Mitzvah Project
Julie and Asher have known each other since they were in preschool at Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El in Plantation, Florida. Now they have teamed up to give back to the community for their mitzvah projects because they are both becoming Bar and Bat Mitzvah on the same weekend. They have decided to raise money and collect donations for Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation as part of their project along with volunteering. They are lucky that they have never spent time in the hospital themselves but want to ensure that children who are spending time there are able to feel all the love!
Julie has a special connection to Memorial Healthcare System as she and her sister were both born next door at Memorial Regional Hospital, where her grandma Debbie Millheiser, was an ICU/trauma nurse for almost 40 years.
Asher has a soft spot for kids and remembers how hard it was to feel "ok" when he broke his tib/fib two years ago. He was in a cast for 6 weeks and then had physio. It took a long time to feel like himself again. He can imagine how these kids at the hospital must feel, and with Julie, put together the perfect Amazon Wishlist for the patients filled with lots of legos, games and books (including some about their illnesses) to help them get through their difficult time.
They thank you so much for making a donation in their honor.
