SuperJake Strong's memory shall live on!
JACOB DEREK SCHWARTZ, SuperJake, was a fierce Osteowarrior who gained his angel wings and transitioned to an Osteoangel on August 6, 2022 at just 7 years old. SuperJake fought a valiant battle with a smile on his face and a strength of character that all who had the honor of meeting him admired. Jacob battled what became metastatic high grade osteosarcoma for 1 year, 8 months and 16 days. During that time and under the loving care of his oncologist, Dr. Brian Cauff, Jacob spent more than 120 nights, not to mention the countless outpatient visits and office visits in Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. No matter the procedure or surgery, it was always his request to be transferred back to 4 Central, the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Ward, that was his home away from home. All of his caregivers there from the cleaning staff to the PCAs, nurses, pharmacists and doctors always made him feel a part of the Joe DiMaggio family and treated him as if he were one of their own. Despite always preferring to be at home, Jacob loved his Dr. Cauff more than Santa (true story) and was always up for a game of trying to find something hidden around the ward by one of his nurses all the while being craftily tricked into some extra exercise. We know that Jacob would want the kids who are in the fight now, and those who will come after, to enjoy the healing type of atmosphere that he did. So in lieu of flowers or other offerings, and if you are so inclined, we ask that you donate to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital's Pediatric Oncology Unit in memory a fierce osteowarrior and his beloved Dr. Cauff.
With heartfelt thanks,
Helen & Kevin Schwartz
